Introduction to the 21st ISC

The 21st International Sedimentological Congress (ISC) is held every four years, and is sponsored by the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS). These congresses aim to gather participants from all over the world to share and discuss the most recent advances in the field of sedimentology. The China University of Geosciences (Beijing) is honored to host this international event on August 22–26, 2022, in collaboration with the following co-organizers: China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC), Chinese Association of Sedimentologists (CAS), and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

The 21st ISC, “A New Journey of Sedimentology: from the Pacific to the Himalaya”, provides 12 scientific themes with diverse and cutting-edge technical sessions, outstanding professional short courses, and workshops. A series of field trips will be organized in some of the most geologically interesting areas in China.

Due to the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to people throughout the world, the organizing committee is planning the 21st ISC as a hybrid meeting, combining both in-person and virtual participation.

The full on-site meeting in Beijing will include technical sessions, Plenary Keynote sessions, the General IAS Assembly, pre- mid- and post-congress field trips, short courses, workshops, Early Career Scientists activities, and academic and business exhibitions. For those who are not able to attend in person, we are pleased to offer online options that include live-stream access to all technical sessions, the Plenary Keynote sessions, the General Assembly, and selected workshops and short courses. Interactive communication during the live sessions will be available to ask questions and chat with both onsite and other virtual attendees.
