Students and Early Career Scientists

Early Career Scientists Activities

Similar to the activities organized by IAS Early Career Scientists Committee during previous IAS meetings, in Beijing we will offer a wide range of activities to students and early career scientists (ECS: people who received their highest degree within the past seven years). Participants who would like to take part in ECS activities will be notified on the website http://www.isc2022.org.cn/students-and-early-career-scientists.html.

ECS workshop: “How to publish a paper in IAS journals”

This workshop aims to help future authors get their work published in IAS journals, and will provide an opportunity for participants to get their questions about publishing their research answered. Editors of IAS journals (Sedimentology, The Depositional Record, Basin Research) will lead this workshop and give suggestions about what reviewers and editors expect from your work. They will also provide key information about how to deal with comments and suggestions in a proper way. Participants are encouraged to come with a list of questions for the Editors of IAS Journals.

ECS workshop: “How to prepare a CV and cover letter for job application”

First impression is crucial. Your CV and cover letter can make a difference between being invited to interview or not. How to prove that you are the right person for the job? How do job applications differ in different parts of the world? Please, come to this workshop and you will find answers from experienced people either working in academia or in industry. They will give the appropriate toolbox helping you to pursue your journey in geoscience. Participants are encouraged to develop questions for workshop leaders.

ECS corner

ECS corner was launched for the first time in Quebec City 2018. It aims to provide a platform for students and early career scientists to interact with the sedimentological community in a relax and friendly atmosphere. Here you can show who you are and what you are doing. Participants are encouraged to share their research, student/postdoc life, or experiences in a field work through a single slide, a stand-up presentation, or something else, all formats are welcome!

ECS party

We shall prepare a party for students and early career scientists. More information will be provided in the third circular and on our website.

ECS field trip (not virtual)

The ECS field trip aims to provide a place for students and ECS to interact with each other. From County Ningcheng in Inner Mongolia to County Qinglong in Hebei Province, the three-day field trip will explore Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous siliciclastic sedimentary rocks. A great opportunity of discussion, with good food and two nights of good rest, is waiting for you! The details of the field trip will be specified in the third circular and on our website.

Poster Competition

Poster Competition is sponsored by IAS and aims to encourage students and ECS to present their original research. Participants should indicate that they wish to participate in the competition during online registration.
